"Honeymoon Suite", installation, cca 60x50x30 cm, 2026
This installation consists of a 50x60 cm canvas which has been cut by a knife, a small lamp that illuminates the work from behind, as well as a crystal vase on which the canvas rests. The canvas had been used for another artwork, which the artist overthought and overworked, and eventually did not like it, so she cut it with a knife.
A significant part of the luxury tourism industry is dedicated to weddings and honeymoons on destinations that are well branded as "romantic", destinations such as Paris, Venice, Santorini, or Maldives. Luxury hotels on these places may offer dedicated "honeymoon suites" which are designed for newlyweds who are willing to make their honeymoon an unforgettable luxury experience, and are priced accordingly.
A small lamp and a crystal vase may be a part of the experience. So is a balcony with the most unique of thee views, as the thing is branded. To possibly "help" with new honeymoon suite designs, I am suggesting what kind of view can also be offered to newlyweds. It is up to a viewer to make their own sense of this marketing campaign, and the cut lines of the canvas speak yet another symbolic language which is up to the viewer to decipher.
